5 Things To Know This Week: Shop and Champagne, Holiday Bazaar
Here's what you need to know about Birmingham this week.
- City Commission meeting Monday: The Birmingham City Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. On the agenda is Play Birmingham, which returns with new plans after being voted down in May, as well as a city ordinance amendment which would make it illegal to raise chickens in Birmingham.
- Holiday bazaar Thursday: Birmingham Public Schools' Friends of Different Learners will be holding their third annual Holiday Bazaar from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Groves High School. Items up for sale include jewelry, books, handmade soaps, photographs, ceramics and more from local artisans. Entrance to the bazaar is free.
- Shop and Champagne Wednesday: The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center's annual fundraiser, Shop and Champagne, will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at the art center. The funds raised help provide educational and community programming for the BBAC. Items at the holiday shop are 10 percent off and tickets are $60 in advance, $70 at the door.
- 'Other Causes of the Civil War' lecture Tuesday: Historian Joel Stone will give a free lecture on the "other causes of the Civil War" at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Baldwin Public Library.
- Second annual Winter Markt kicks off this weekend: The Birmingham Principal Shopping District will kick off its second annual Winter Markt this weekend, beginning Friday. Stroll through a decorated Shain Park, shop local artisans and enjoy mulled wine and cider from Birmingham merchants.
