5 Things To Do This Weekend: Dec. 10-12

Kids Holiday Parade, an author visit at Borders and a concert by the Birmingham Concert Band make this weekend action-packed.

1.  Kids Holiday Parade

Looking for something to do with the kids this weekend? We've got you covered with the Kids Holiday Parade on Saturday, sponsored by the Magic of Birmingham, the Principal Shopping District and the Cultural Council of Birmingham-Bloomfield. Kids will meet at the Birmingham Historical Museum  at 11 a.m., then march down Maple Road to the Santa House in Shain Park. Refreshments will be provided by the Cupcake Station, Zuma and Beyond Juice.

Speaking of Santa, the man in red will be visiting local stores 2-3 p.m. Friday before settling into the Santa House.

2.  The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe by the Village Youth Theater

A partner of Birmingham's Village Players, the Village Youth Theater will be putting on a musical version of Narnia: The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. The play premieres tonight at 8 p.m., with performances at 7 p.m. Friday, and 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Village Players theater at 34660 Woodward Ave. For tickets, call 248-644-2075 or visit the group's website, http://www.villageyouththeatre.com.

3. Mike Brogan Visits Borders

Mike Brogan will be at the Birmimgham Borders Saturday, signing copies of his latest book, Madison Avenue.  A high-paced suspense novel, the book has been described as Mad Men set in modern times, except with women running the show. Brogan is also the author of Dead Air and Business to Kill For.

4.  Birmingham Concert Band Holiday Concert

In the mood for some holiday music? The Birmingham Concert Band will be hosting its holiday concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. The group has entertained audiences for 32 years, and is now under the direction of Grant Hoemke.  Interested in joining so you can be part of the 2011 concert? Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at Groves High School, and no auditions are required. Call 248-479-4997 if interested.

5.  Sundays @ the Center

If you're looking for ways to express yourself, look no further than the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center for Studio 1 drop-in workshops. All ages are invited, and the cost is $5 per person and free for children under 4. All children under 12, however, must be accompanied by an adult. Create your own artwork, learn from the experts and then peruse the collection at the art center at your leisure.
