$39,000 in Loot Taken from Abbott's Coins & Jewelry Tuesday Morning
In an early morning smash-and-grab, three masked suspects took jewelry, coins and silver from Woodward Avenue jeweler.
The Birmingham Police Department is investigating surveillance videos from Abbott's Coins & Jewelry after three masked suspects smashed the front window Tuesday morning and took $39,000 worth of silver, gold coins and jewelry.
According to Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan, an alarm went off at the Woodward Avenue jeweler around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, he said the front window had been smashed with a brick, the store had been ransacked and any suspects were gone.
Kiernan said police are assuming the three suspects — seen on the surveillance video with masks and hoodies — are men, though they can't be sure of any other identifying features, including race.
"They must have known what they're doing," Kiernan said. "They were in and out really fast."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department at 248-530-1865.
