Waterford resident and Zazios cook Steve Herbert was recognized as the Behind the Scenes category winner at the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (DMCVB) Recognition of Service Excellence (ROSE) Awards on Aug. 11 at The Fillmore Detroit.

The ROSE Awards is an annual event hosted by the DMCVB to commend front line hospitality workers throughout the region that deliver outstanding customer service in their industry.

As a cook at Zazio’s restaurant, Herbert has a reputation with his co-workers as being the savior of Christmas. On Christmas Eve of last year, a huge night for Zazio’s, Herbert stepped up to fix a food delivery hiccup and to assist a frantic customer.

Herbert, “is happiest when he is creating innovative ways of pleasing others through food. He is the ideal representation of Zazio’s and the restaurant industry,” was one of the many comments the DMCVB received.

Herbert received a VIP lunch with DMCVB President & CEO Larry Alexander, dinner for two at Texas de Brazil, a crystal award, one dozen red roses and Detroit Tigers tickets.

This year’s ROSE Award sponsors were Delta Air Lines, the Detroit Tigers, The Fillmore Detroit, People’s Transit, Texas de Brazil, WDIV and Wesley Berry Flowers.
