Nominations Now Being Accepted for Cultural Arts Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2011 Birmingham/Bloomfield Cultural Arts Award.

Jointly sponsored by The Community House, the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers, the Birmingham-Bloomfield Art Center and the Cultural Council of Birmingham and Bloomfield, the public is invited to nominate anyone who has been influential in furthering the arts in Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and Franklin.

This year represents the 16th years for the award. Past award winners have included a wide range of artists, including musicians, philanthropists, writers, sculptors, teachers, photographers and volunteers. Last year’s honoree was Diane Bert, an ‘artist, educator and generous spirit.’ A Lifetime Achievement Award was also to Barbara Kratchman for her tireless support of the arts in Michigan.

“The quality of the nominations cannot be overstressed,” said Anita DeMarco Goor, co-chairwoman of the arts award committee. “We ask that nominators include as much detail to support the nomination as possible so the jury can make an informed decision.

A jury of more than a dozen art experts from the community, representing various artistic mediums will select the winner on the basis of the nominations. Wachler, the jewelry designer of Life Links, will again create the prize which will be presented to the winner at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center on Sept. 9. The winners’ names also grace a Cultural Council Award plaque mounted at Birmingham City Hall, across from the city commission’s meeting room.

Nominations are due July 15. Forms may be picked up at The Community House, the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Baldwin Library and Bloomfield Township Libraries, Robert Kidd and David Klein galleries, or Wachler Jewelers in Birmingham. The nomination form may also be downloaded and printed directly from the Cultural Council’s Web site: www.PartnersWithTheArts.org or from the  Birmingham Patch: www.BirminghamPatch.com.
