Don Thomas Sporthaus to Present MSP's 'Superheroes of Stoke' Nov. 3
Don Thomas Sporthaus (The Sporthaus), the Birmingham-based premier retailer of skis, snowboards, and apparel, is presenting Superheroes of Stoke from Matchstick Productions (MSP) on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Birmingham 8 in downtown Birmingham at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, Nov. 2 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 from 2-4 p.m., Pro-Skiers Mark Abma and Michelle Parker, who appear in the film and other MSP features, and Big Mountain Ripper Rebecca Selig will be at The Sporthaus to sign autographs for fans. Selig is a native of Kalamazoo.
In honor of MSP’s 20th anniversary, Superheroes of Stoke pays tribute to the heroes who have made freeskiing what it is today. The visually stunning film includes edited highlights from 19 years of archived material to demonstrate how far the athletes have progressed and how far boundaries have been pushed in the sport. Shot in 4K resolution and utilizing the latest in camera technology, the film crew visited more than 150 exotic locations around the world throughout the past year.
The film includes an all-star cast consisting of Sean Pettit, Mark Abma, Richard Permin, PK Hunder, Riley Leboe, Logan Pehota, Sam Anthamatten, Leo Ahrens, Aidan Sheahan, Gus Kenworthy, Eric Hjorleifson, Ingrid Backstrom, Russ Henshaw, James Heim, Cody Townsend, and Jacob Weste. Additionally, it features cameos from earlier generations of MSP films including Tanner Hall and JP Auclair, and the lateShane McConkey and Sarah Burke.
“This is a visually stunning movie that definitely gets the adrenaline pumping. It’s exhilarating for skiers and non-skiers alike,” said Steve Kopitz, president and SKI-EO of The Sporthaus. “Having a star of the film, Michelle Parker, with us really makes the movie become that much more alive for the audience.”
A midnight madness sale will follow the movie from 9:30 p.m. to midnight at The Sporthaus. The event will include an autograph signing with Abma, Parker and Selig, and snacks and refreshments. The evening will be capped off with an auction of pro skier merchandise, with all proceeds going to SheJumps, an organization whose goal is to increase female participation inoutdoor activities by building upon a supportive community that inspires members to reach their highest potential.
Tickets for the film are required and can be purchased at Don Thomas Sporthaus for $12 or for $15 at the door. Seating is limited. Don Thomas Sporthaus is located at 690 S. Old Woodward in Birmingham.
