Cultural Council of Birmingham and Bloomfield Announce 2011 Cultural Arts Winners
The Cultural Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield is pleased to announce that Maury Okun, executive director of Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, has been selected to receive the 16th Annual Birmingham/Bloomfield Cultural Arts Award at a ceremony at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center on Sept. 9.
A Special Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented to Judy Adelman of Birmingham.
The awards are sponsored by the Cultural Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield, the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, The Community House and the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers.
Nominations for the award were made by members of our community who wish to honor the person they believe has done the most to further the arts in the community. Jurors cited Okun as a visionary in the arts and his ability to bring organizations together to share tight resources. They were particularly impressed by the national presence the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival has brought to the Birmingham/Bloomfield area.
Adelman will receive a Special Lifetime Achievement Award honoring her indefatigable support and volunteer efforts in the arts, and the huge imprint she has left on members of every age and circumstance in our community.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Cultural Arts Awards will be presented during the opening reception for the Annual Exhibition of Birmingham Society of Women Painters at the
Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center Sept 9 from 6-8 p.m.
